Meet Scott

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Scott Brison, M.P.

Scott Brison is a leading new generation politician.

New generation not simply in terms of age, but, more importantly, in terms of attitude. To Scott Brison, politics is, above all, a forum for innovative ideas, not simply a "game" of partisan bickering.

Although still young, Scott is an experienced politician. He has been a key member of the Progressive Conservative Caucus since 1997, serving as the Party's spokesperson on critical Finance and Industry issues. He has served on the Board of PC Canada Fund and co-chaired the Party's 2000 Election Policy Platform Committee.

A graduate of Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance, Scott has had a successful business career, first, in sales and marketing with Atlantic-based companies and, latterly, as a Vice-President for Investment Banking with Yorkton Securities in Halifax. He understands business and what makes the real economy work and he has a solid network of contacts through the Canadian corporate community.

Scott Brison is, above all, an idea-driven politician, one who is not afraid to take on the "sacred cows" of Canadian politics in order to promote more effective public policy.

For example, he has proposed abolishing the pork-barrel subsidy-driven network of federal regional development agencies - including the Atlantic Opportunities Agency in his own region - in favour of a new tax-driven approach to supporting genuine entrepreneurship and economic growth in these areas.

The National Post said proposals like that "set (Scott) apart from his Parliamentary colleagues".

"Rather than simply pandering to special interest groups by promising lots of new spending on cities, highways or fishermen, he's actually putting forward intelligent new ideas. What a novel concept", the Post wrote.

Similarly, The Windsor Star called Scott's regional development proposal "a very commendable strategy" and "exactly what Atlantic Canada needs".

Scott Brison is also dedicated to serious tax reform to make Canadian tax rates at least competitive with the United States, to a new approach to Employment Insurance so that those who always pay and never receive EI can recover some of their contributions, and to innovative reforms to give young people a hand up on starting their careers by forgoing student loans and offering special tax incentives for young Canadians.

Scott is a new generation messenger with a new ideas-driven agenda to realize Canada's true potential. Scott Brison - a politician - and a leader - for the 21st century.
