Last week....

Last week Scott was in Washington on Monday and Tuesday with the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade, where they held 2 days of meetings.

He then traveled to Regina where he toured Parner Technologies Inc., met with EVRAZ Management (Reginal Steel) and met with the Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour.

On Thursday he traveled to Vancouver where he had a tour and briefing of the Port of Vancouver, attended a roundtable on Asia-Pacific issues, met with the president of the Asia-Pacific Foundation and then attended the National Liberal Convention through the weekend.

Recently....

An article in the Chronicle Herald on April 25th discussed Scott's recent visit to Washington where he held discussions with American state governors and legislators.

The article said:

"The Obama administration is seeing the global economic crisis as an opportunity to reform their economy and to green their economy to be more competitive in a global, constrained economy that’s emerging in the 21st century," the Liberal MP said.

Mr. Brison said the Obama government is motivated to implement a carbon tariff for environmental and protectionist reasons

"It may be aimed at China and India but it is going to hit Canada squarely," he said. "We’re going to be caught in that crossfire."

AND, Scott led the Liberal Party debate in late April in the House on the Implementation Act for the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement.

He said...

The Liberal Party recognizes the importance of free trade and the opportunity to create jobs and prosperity not only for Canadians but for our trade partners. Particularly, during this global economic downturn, it is important that we not only work to expand our free trade relationships but we fight protectionist tendencies, whether it is from U.S. congressmen or senators or from Europeans.

Lastly, Scott turns 42 on Sunday, May 10.  Best Wishes!
